The CROSS Check Method is a template to guide educators through developing an intentional, indicator-aligned instructional series. Patterns of Power is a grammar resource provided to each school. This session will engage participants in an inquiry grammar lesson. Time will also be provided for discussion around grammar standard changes and how to best utilize this resource within the literacy day and based upon data.
Writing valid success criteria sessions will guide educators through the development of intentional student learning aligned with new ELA standards. The success criteria for any lesson should be visible, aligned, accessible, an indicator of learning, and defined. In addition to creating success criteria, educators will learn how it impacts designing effective instruction, providing feedback, and guiding assessment practices.
The process of writing is hard work. Teaching writing, and helping students believe in themselves as writers, is even harder. Join Lisa Helsel, 2023 recipient of the NCTE Donald H. Graves Award for Excellence in Teaching Writing, as she shares ideas for connecting deeply with student writers and for helping them become aware of their own writing processes. Participants will walk away with assessment and reflection activities that can be used in classrooms across the grade levels.
