In this sesssion, participants will learn the structure of the new ELA curriculum maps. Participants will explore the supports available in the maps and begin the unit planning process. It is recommended that collaborative teams attend the session together.
It's Free Write Friday! My weekly writing routine allows students to write whatever they want and to have their writings celebrated! Participants will write freely as students before learning how to impact their own classroom communities. I will provide examples of student writing and share the details of what makes it an impactful and effective use of precious class time. After teaching a Newcomer class in 2023-2024, I have developed skills and methods to teaching ELA skills to Newcomer students. When taking ACCESS test, all of my newcomers scored above a Pre-A score on their reading and listening domain.
Participants will learn what text-dependent writing (TDW) is, learn the modes of writing the TDW item will assess at each grade-level, how the TDW aligns to standards, and the expecations of the TDW rubric.
