While students enjoy reading them for their cartoon illustrations and readability, they can also be used to supplement instruction. After teaching a Newcomer class in 2023-2024, I have developed skills and methods to teaching ELA skills to Newcomer students. When taking ACCESS test, all of my newcomers scored above a Pre-A score on their reading and listening domain.
